TRX Training

What is it?

Developed by the US Navy SEALs, TRX Suspension training is a form of exercises which uses your bodyweight to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. Suspension training develops physical strength while using functional movements and dynamic positions.

The TRX Suspension Trainer is a very simple piece of exercise equipment. It consists of two adjustable length straps of seatbelt like material, hung from the ceiling and with handle on the ends.

These non-stretchy straps allow the user to adjust their bodyweight in relationship to gravity to work the entire body and because of this the workout can be as gentle or as intense as the individual wants. Once you’re familiar with the concept you perform the movements and adjust your body angle to achieve the desired level of challenge.

Each class is split into four 10 minute rounds of exercise with a cardiovascular element separating each round. A thorough warm up and cool down are also included.

Who is it for?

Due to the nature of the equipment, anyone can theoretically join the class as you can make each exercise as hard or as easy as you like.

TRX is available to people of all ages although we prefer to see under 16s on a 1:1 basis rather than a group class. Furthermore, the classes can be intense and will certainly get you sweating, so if you have any long standing or serious medical conditions you should consider a 1:1 session first. If you are unsure of your ability, a 30 minute 1:1 session to familiarise yourself with the equipment and understand how to adjust each move appropriately would be strongly recommended.

We have recently introduced a Beginners TRX class for those who are new to the technique, and would like a more gentle start.

What to expect

At the Courtyard we are committed to offering you the very best TRX programme delivered by instructors who are fully trained Chartered Physiotherapists. This provides a unique opportunity for you in that your instructor will use physiotherapy skills of assessment and rehabilitation to specifically tailor exercises and routines to work on areas of weakness.

We offer a free taster session for anyone who would like to try it out. All you need to do is turn up and give it a go!
