I have specialised in neurological physiotherapy for the last 20 years. I have worked in hospitals, clinics and people’s homes. I find the body’s ability to adapt to even the most traumatic neurological event overwhelming. The brain’s uniqueness to each person means that rehabilitation needs to be very individualised. Being able to work exercise into everyday life to achieve functional goals is highly important for neurological physiotherapy and a challenge I enjoy. Each new assessment begins with a discussion about the problems people are facing and what they would like to achieve.
Alongside my neurological physiotherapy I treat people with balance and mobility issues. Balance issues can be caused by different systems of the body working incorrectly. This could be a joint, tissue, sensory, vestibular or neurological issue. I have a strong interest in vestibular conditions. These conditions cause problems with the body’s balance system, mainly the inner ear or the part of the brain that processes balance signals. It is often the cause of vertigo which is a feeling of the world spinning. My aim, through assessment is to work out which systems are causing the problems and work towards solving them. Treatment often includes eye/head exercises alongside balance and strengthening exercises.
I work closely with other professionals to ensure that each individual receives comprehensive, coordinated care and attention.
