Food is the single most powerful tool we have to influence both the quality and length of our lives. I am fascinated by the way what we eat can heal, protect, shape how we feel and fundamentally influence our future health.
My journey into nutrition began in a very different role, managing an NHS dental practice. It was there I first noticed the strong link between poor diet and declining health. Seeing so many people, of all ages, relying on multiple medications to mask the symptoms of chronic disease made me question why and what could be done to change this.
Curiosity, combined with my passion for food, flavour and fitness, led me to study nutrition. I was fortunate to learn from world-leading experts about the microbiome, healthy ageing and genetic nutrition. I have since qualified in nutrigenomics, enabling me to tailor dietary advice to each person’s unique genetic code for a truly personalised approach.
Alongside my clinical work, I am a certified health coach with Momenta Newcastle, working within their Type 2 diabetes team. Here, I use behaviour change techniques as part of an NHS programme to help people modify their diet and lifestyle, often achieving the remarkable goal of reversing their condition.
My approach is scientific and evidence based, but also practical and simple. I promote a diverse, plant rich diet to support a healthy microbiome, and nutrient dense foods to fuel metabolism. I believe in positive nutrition with no restrictive diets or rigid meal plans, just healthy, enjoyable choices that fit naturally into everyday life. By considering lifestyle, movement, stress and sleep alongside diet, I can offer advice that is targeted, sustainable and truly personalised.
Being a nutritionist allows me to combine my love of science with my love of people. I enjoy learning about each individual’s story and feel privileged to play a role in their health journey where small, consistent changes can lead to life changing results.
When I am not working with clients or keeping up with the latest nutrition research, you will usually find me on my bike. I regularly take part in ultra distance cycling events, which give me space to think, often about nutrition!
