Mary Beth Staddon
Sport and Therapeutic Massage Therapist
Biography
Meet Mary-Beth
I am a sport and therapeutic massage therapist with a passion for helping people improve their quality of life through effective, personalised care. My journey into massage therapy began many years ago after I was involved in a serious car accident that left me with severe whiplash. As part of my rehabilitation, I was introduced to remedial massage to help with muscle tension, soft tissue damage and headaches. The results were remarkable, and I quickly realised this was the path I wanted to follow.
When I moved to the UK in 1996, I saw it as the perfect opportunity for a career change. I trained in holistic massage at the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork in 1997, and soon after joined Courtyard Clinic in 1998. In 1999, I completed my sports massage diploma in Cardiff, expanding my skills and enabling me to meet the needs of a wider range of clients.
Today, I combine both holistic and sports massage in what I call a remedial approach. This allows me to tailor each treatment, addressing not only the symptoms but also the underlying causes of discomfort or injury. My work includes therapeutic, sports, rehabilitative and neurological massage, and I have even carried out independent research with riders and their horses, exploring how an injury in one can affect the other.
I take great pride in celebrating the successes of my patients, no matter how small. One of my more unusual achievements was preparing a patient to run the London Marathon dressed as an eyeball for charity, which earned thm a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. This is one of the things I love most about my work β just when I think I know what to expect, something entirely new and memorable comes along.
As the token Canadian on the Courtyard team, I bring a friendly, bubbly energy to the clinic. I love creating a warm and relaxing environment for my patients, often playing classical music during treatments. I am curious by nature, love what I do, and feel grateful to come to work each day knowing I am helping people feel and function at their best.
